E's July Book Review

So, we're hanging out in the hotel, killing time. It's while we're sitting here wondering what to do with ourselves on a Saturday afternoon that I wonder what we did most weekends, they always seemed to fly by.

so we're checking out Confucius Says when E says "did you write a book review about the Rape of Nanking?"

Hmmm, me, "No".

So, here's E's book review. I will say that this is the only book so far I've decided I won't read now or likely ever. Too much for me. Funny thing is that it's also the only book (long at least) that we could find for E on CD. With his job he's got tons of time on the road so books on CD suit him well. When we saw the book a month ago we imediately picked it up.

E says The Rape of Nanking was every bit as horrific and raw as I thought it would be. It was about the Japanese taking over the city of Nanking in China and the systematic rape, abuse and murder over a six week period of nearly 300,000 of the capital city's 600,000 civilians and soldiers. It represents the single worst atrocity during World War II in either European or Pacific theaters of war.

The paragraph above does even come close to scratching the surface of what happened in Nanking and the sheer terror inflicted upon the people of Nanking.

In E's words, it was a very sad book. He says he realized people can change and that it was the military that took it's revenge in Nanking. But he felt so sick about what the Japanese people did in Nanking that he felt like quiting his Japanese company. He finds it sad that the rape of Nanking has been censored from teachings and all reference in historical recordings and is not even talked about in school in Japan.

E still has an incredible desire to go back to Japan one day, but it really bothers him that's it's not taught in schools.
