Dog days of summer

The last few months continue to scream on past as we fill weekend after weekend with family and friends from near and far, or the never ending landscaping projects. From get togethers with E's brother, his wife and daughter, to friends from NC and Maryland... and even getting together with families in CT, it's been a whirlwind.

This past "weekend" was no different. Friends from NC arrived on Saturday night, on Sunday we babysat our niece for the day and also took her and our friends to the campsite in Massachusetts to set up camp. Even our niece got into the action with both packing the coolers and unpacking the car. She'd grab an article, say "too heavy", then when I'd reach for it she'd haul it away to the campsite! Too cute. We dropped her back off that evening and returned to the campsite. A family we're friends with from CT joined us also, in total there were 6 adults, 4 kids, 2 campsites... it was hectic, it was relaxing, it was fun and holy cow we had soooooo much food to eat!

From scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, to dogs and burgers, to ice cream and s'mores... even Jiffy pop. What a blast. This was our first time camping together in the Northeast, normally we camped each summer in VA, but with the move it was a bit impractical this first year! we stayed at a state forest, in Massachusetts, it's a beautiful park attached to a resevoir with a beach and very wooded tent sites, very cool.

Our days passed with exploring the campground, swimming, eating... and the nights, well, we took in some beverages after dark and swapped stories about adoption, life and anything we could think of. We were also teased with all sorts of tempting 'things' to put in our homestudy update/renewal which due to the move requires additional referrals. This time we're expanding the circle of people involved and have asked new people to write letters, the comments at the campfire that night had me rethinking the choices! (just teasing)

All in all, other than the family of pterodactyls at the campsite next door who thought the quiet hours didn't apply to them and that the middle of a public campsite was a great place to try the ferber method of letting the baby cry it out multiple times each night... it was a great weekend. In fact, it was surprisingly void of the typical holiday weekend drunken, loud madness that usually occurs.

At the end of the weekend, I caught myself saying the exact same thing I did this time last year when we were camping in VA... "by this time next year we could be camping with Magpie"... yeah, that prediction didn't go so well last year, perhaps next year it will be true? We can only hope so.

Holy Cow!!! Those pictures so make me want to go camping... not to mention all the fun food including Jiffy Pop. My husband is such a city boy -- we've never been. Boo hoo. I'm going to show him the fun pictures and we'll see what he says. If I told him we were camping out at Yankee stadium, that might change his mind.
Your description of the family at the next campsite is priceless! I"m laughing my you know what off.

Looks like such fun. Ah well, the pterodactyls do beat out an episode of 'Girls Gone Wild' next door.

I so hope Magpie is at the next camp out too. If not it may be us waiting parents who need a trial of the Ferber method.
