We chose to honor Sophia's memory by helping a nanny (Mai YuLian) in China in the hopes that we might make a difference in the life of many other people and that Sophia's death was not in vain nor forgotten. The sponsorship pays the salary of the nanny and the care of 3 children. By living in the care of a nanny rather than an orphanage, these 3 children recieve far more attention and are less likely to suffer developmental delays that others go through as a result of being in an orphanage. Our gift will hopefully make a difference in the lives of not only the nanny and 3 children, but also the parents that adopt those children.
Our update include health reports and pictures. Here are the pictures below. (having trouble with the picture formatting, sorry)
The 3 children are:
Guang BaiDie, Diedie is now standing on her own and can take a few steps with help. She seems to be quite adventuresome and have a natural curiosty about the world around her. She is not withdrawn at all and is able to bond with her nanny.
Guang HaiXiu, HaiXiu loves to play and make sounds, I believe she is younger than Diedie though. She is also bonding well with her nanny.
Lastly, Guang HuangXin, XinXin is quite gentle and quiet, though she loves to giggle. She is learning to roll and crawl at the moment, all things that in the orphange a caretaker wouldn't not have the time to give personal attention to assist, nor would XinXin have the freedom outside her crib to do so for much time each day.
Last quarter we had a baby named Guang Bai Yan, I believe she was adopted by a family. If you or someone you know are looking for information and early pictures, we have them, please post a comment. The baby was in nanny care in the Baby Infant Nurture Center in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, PR China.
After seeing our post above from months ago, K and R also donated to Half the Sky and their donations are helping to make a difference for up to for other children through a fundraiser Half the Sky participated in. We are touched, honored and amazed that we were able to cause a chain reaction, even if a tiny one in this way. We hope that you too will think about how big a difference you can make in these children's lives and we hope one day our life if our child comes from the care of a nanny vs. an orphanage. It's seriously a heck of lot less than you think, and your donation may impact our life in ways you can only begin to imagine.K and R, I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank you from the bottom of both of our hearts. It feels so good in ways I can't explain that the two of you are walking side by side with us on our journey to Magpie... words just cannot explain.
K and R's gift came with a card and was addressed to Magpie, we LOVE getting mail addressed to her. Each and every peice of mail addressed to her is being saved for her scrapbook... how many babies get mail before they are adopted or even born, as she may not yet be born.
We also received more mail finally as we now have a new address. Even though we can't live there yet, the post office is holding our mail! So we finally got our April DTC postcards in the mail. This is only a small portion of this swap. It runs the full year and every 3 month a seasonal card from your homestate is sent out. This is the summer swap.
