Homeward Bound...

So, we're spending at least 50-60% of our free time trying to get settled in. This weekends chore... besides unpacking and taking 'broken inventory' (!!) was to clear the dead branches off the ground in one of the sides of the property. We didn't get it all done on one side but we made a great dent. We also figured out where the dog pen would go and where the fence line would eventually be on that side.

Thrilling, I know, you are so excited to hear. But before clearing branches for a few hours (and dumping them on the to be developed land the builder is tackling next) we decided to check out the back of our property and to try and find the property line markers. Good thing we saw at closing that the perimeter takes a 'dog leg' in one direction and is not a straight shot back.

While walking the property (most of the 3 acres is uncleared forest) we found some really neat things out. There is now a 'natural path' the builder created for us when he turned most of the removed trees into mulch and it meanders down the hillside, starting from the stone wall on the back of the cleared backyard, deep into the woods. At which point it ends and comes upon the opposite side of our property line where on the neighbors (to be) side there is a huge old foundation of some sort, another path into a clearing and then a long and winding bike/horse/snowmobile/motorcycle path on their property (better on their property than ours... they have to respect and keep the existing 'easement').

We aren't quite sure where the path leads to, we took it to the very back of their property and then crossed into ours along the wetlands... though our property doesn't reach the wetlands it is pretty neat. It's also the reason our property will never face a development on the backside, it's state conservation wetlands! There's a marsh, or should a say Mosquito Ranch, back there along with a stream. Then back up the lower part of our property, up the hill where we come along a series of 3 sets of stone walls, the walls and trees back in that section are covered with an incredible moss or lichen, don't know what but the color in the sunlight is gorgeous.

We love the 'lay of the land' and really enjoyed our first opportunity to see what our property was like. The afternoon was cool, but bright and with the leaves mostly gone we could really see what the property was all about. We came upon this HUGE old tree, that in my mind was perfect for climbing, E was worried it had too much sap, but I could picture all 3 of us (with Magpie) climbing the tree one day and checking the view.
