First of course, the obligatory trip down various Lowe's aisles, picking up odds and ends needed by any new home owner. We've spent much of our time concentrating on the inside of the house, but eventually we had to head outside.
So other than clearing some big dead trees a few weeks ago we hadn't done much. This weekend, while waiting for my mom to show up in the morning and then after she left in the afternoon, we spent a lot of time clearing branches, cutting down vines, clearing a section of the stone walls by the street, starting a bonfire and wondering how long till the cops showed up and so on.Which brings me to the point of this story. Several weeks ago we went shopping, again at Lowe's of course, for leaf blowers. I've been giving in on outdoor power tools. Until I met E, I never had a snow blower, or leaf blower, etc. Didn't see the point, it's good exercise. But, when you have an acre of cleared land, surrounded by trees, a leaf blower becomes a wise idea.
While standing looking at them, having no clue whether 50 MPH or 150 MPH was best we had a chat:
(E) Which one do you think we should get.
(Me) I don't know? Look, that one is on sale.
uhhm, what about this one.
Wait, this one's only $20 more and it's 80 MPH.
Hey, look, this one's only another $40 and it's 100 MPH.
(as we move down the line)
This one's nearly the same price ($75 more than the sale model) and it's 150 MPH air and it has a cool back pack.
That back pack is cool, let's get it.
So, I think the moral of the story is, cool features, we buy it.
We had no idea why you'd need 150 MPH to blow leaves. Well, you don't need 150 MPH to blow leaves around, it's cool and all, you could do it with a lot less power, but we found another use. See, the dogs don't have a dog run yet, it's on the list, and so they 'go to the bathroom' on the edge of the wooded area on the side of the house. Poop doesn't decompose all that fast and we hate the chore of cleaning it up. BUT, the leaf blower, what a sweet deal, you can actualy harness that force from 150 MPH wind to "blow/roll" the poop into the woods.
How cool is that? That's right, Use # 87, cleaning up after the dogs.
Magpie, we need to take a moment to apologize in advance, your parents, well, sometimes they're weird.

Too, too funny! I too didn't quite understand about the tool/equipment/play toy thing until we shoveled our driveway one time one winter because there wasn't enough on it to justify using the snowblower. The house sits back 92 ft from the road and I can now attest that the snowblower is definitely needed in our house. Though..DH always has to do the snowblowing beacuse the contraption is waaaay to heavy for me to maneuver. DH still wants a riding mower, but since our yard is just shy of 1/2 acre, including the house footprint, we just don't have enought yard to warrant it, although DH doesn't agree. I just keep telling him...."next house dear".

Magpie will certainly understand and forgive your quirkiness as it just shows that you both are a lot more fun, you can find ways to enjoy even the most unpleasant chores and you'll never have a bored child in your house.
