Day 6

When we last left you in Germany we were on Day 4, Dachau, (day 5 we posted earlier) a very sobering, memorable and in many ways valuable day. I won't forget it, and I'm glad we went. Day 6 though a completely different world.

At this point in our trip, we'd gotten into quite a rythym. Day trip to 1 or 2 towns, arrive back in Munich Marienplatz for a brief stop in the Christmas Market for some sausage sandwiches, drool over the surrounding shops in age old beautiful buildings, pick up a special something for the evening and head to the hotel room. Most days... in by 7PM.





We'd watch crazy TV, or toast with champagne/wine, eating yummy treats and checking out the guide book for the next day. We always picked up an all day Bavaria Pass on the way home allowing us to travel the rails anytime, anywhere the following day, as many stops/trips as desired. It was so relaxing, delightful and a wonderful break from a long year.

So back to Day 6, Regensburg and Landshot. A rather interesting trip.

The night prior we decided to spend the day in one town, Regensburg. The pictures in the guide book were stunning of the winding, narrow streets, tons of beautiful old buildings, tower after tower reaching for the sky. In the end, the real thing? Did not disappoint. The best views to be had were on the Steinerne Brucke, the bridge over the Danube, built 1135-1146 nd over 1,000 ft long.

Regensburg escaped damage in all major wars for the most part and it's listed on the UNESCO World Heritage sites, it's medieval city center intact to this day.

We'd did our thing in Regensburg, toured the town, took lots of pictures, strolled through the Christmas Markets and headed for home.

However, we opted for a side trip to Landshut, a few stops away on our train. The people on the train raved about it, supposedly it had awesome Markets too, ... we got off the train, walked forever to get to the city center... (silly us, we thought the city center would be close to the main train station like all the other towns) followed sign after sign, arrow after arrow to the Christmas Markets and never found them. Seriously.

We walked back to the train station and relaxed on our way to Munich. Prepared to settle in for a long restful sleep and another exciting day that would await us.

All in all, Regensburg more than made up for the disappointment in Landshut. I've include mainly pictures of Regensburg, with the last 2 of Landshut.
